God of War Director Explains Why There won’t Be A Third Game That is Based on Norse Mythology

Cory Barlog from Sony Santa Monica Studio has explained why there will only be two games from Norse Mythology, saying that he doesn’t want to conclude the story by taking more than a decade, pointing out the time it takes for a game to be developed.

Barlog said in an interview with Kaptain Kuba that he wants to end the story with two games, avoiding the continuation of the series, he explains:

“I think one of the most important reasons is the first game took five years. The second game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take but I’m just going to throw out that it’s going to take a close to a similar time.”

“Then if you think a third one in that same [timespan], we’re talking a span of close to fifteen years of a single story and I feel like that’s just too stretched out. I feel like we’re asking too much to say the actual completion of that story taking that long… It just feels too long. Given where the team was at and where Eric was at with what he wanted to do, I was like ‘Look I think we can actually do this in the second story because most of what we were trying to do from the beginning was to tell something about Kratos and Atreus that the core of the story’s engine is really the relationship between these two characters.”

Seems like what he’s trying to point out is that nowadays some games and movies, or even series take their stories to a point where it’s just not necessary to continue but they do anyway. If this is what he wants, I see no issue with it and am excited to see the final version of his team’s work.

God of War: Ragnarok will be released in 2022, where it will tell the rest of Kratos and Arteus’ story to us, players. How will you think Ragnarok is going to turn out? Let us know!
