The Potential Release Date of PlayStation 6 has been Revealed Thanks to Official Sony Documents

Documents made public due to the ongoing investigation of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) show some interesting facts such as a potential release date of PlayStation 6. The investigation is being held for Microsoft’s plan to acquire Activision Blizzard.

As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, on the 22-page-long document’s 8th page, there is a claim from the side of Sony that Microsoft had “offered to continue making Activision’s games available on PlayStation only until 2027.” The statement continues as follows:

“By the time SIE launched the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to occur around [redacted]), it would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, making it extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness.”

Although the release date seems labeled as redacted, the year 2027 mentioned beforehand gives us some ideas. The first one that comes to mind might be a new PlayStation release after 2027.

If we get a PlayStation 6 in 2027, it will render PlayStation 5 as the generation with the shortest lifespan. In such a case, the most probable scenario would be PS5 and PS6 co-existing for a while after the PS6 release just like the story of PS4 and PS5 after the latter’s release.
