According to Spencer, Console Tribalism is One of the Worst Things in the Industry

In a recent interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer shared how toxicity could wreak havoc on the video game industry, calling console tribalism one of the worst things in the video game industry.

Spencer opposed what he called tribalism in the industry, although more popularly referred to as console wars. Spencer, who runs Microsoft’s Xbox operation, goes so far as to say that tribalism may be the only thing that can get him out of the game industry.

This isn’t Spencer’s first speech against toxicity in the gaming industry. In his keynote speech at DICE 2018, Spencer described toxicity in gaming as a threat to our entire industry.

Spencer says instead, we should focus on how the game brings people closer, thanks to features like cross-play that remove barriers between consoles in online play.
