PS5 Can Record Voice Chats and Report to Moderators

PS5 users will be able to record voice chats and send them to moderators, but Sony announced that the company itself does not record party chats. The news has been announced with the latest system software update for PS4, version 8.00. PS4 users are reporting seeing a notification in group chats that voice chats are said to be recorded for moderation.

According to PlayStation Blog, this is a measure for the new feature that will be released alongside PS5. “Voice chat recording for moderation is a feature that will be available on the PS5 when launched and allows users to record their voice chats to the PS5 and send it to audit review,” explained Sid Shuman, Senior Director of Content Communications at SIE. “The popup you see on PS4 right now is to inform you that when you join a conversation (post-launch) with a PS5 user, they can send these recordings to SIE from their PS5 consoles,” he added.

To make things clear, one of the PlayStation’s support Twitter accounts said, “The notification notifies you that other users are recording your voice conversation. We are not recording party chats.”

It is not yet clear what the consequences of this new system will be.
