Hexologic Review

Hexologic is a logic puzzle game developed and published by MythicOwl. The game is now available on Steam and thus, I am lucky enough to lay my hands and eyes on this title, and share my first impressions with you.

The game is a Sudoku-like number puzzle game and like any Sudoku game, it is addictive. So, before anything else, you must consider yourselves warned. Hexologic is designed to make you stare at the screen for hours and experience a very enjoyable gameplay.

The game requires you to do nothing except entering the right numbers to right places. At the very beginning, this may look highly easy and actually, it is highly easy at the first levels. But, as you go on, you will realize that Hexologic has the power to drive you mad. Just when you think that everything is going cool and smooth, a wrong number will make you start all over. Just how we like it.

At the beginning, the game gives you obvious puzzles like there are two hexes to enter the numbers and the solution is 3. Well, you can not leave any hexes empty so you must enter 2 and 1. It is clear as the skies and an easy starting point. Then, everything will be more and more complicated while the game is getting harder and harder.

This is what we expect from a puzzle game, we want it to push the limits of our brain. Plus, if you like to play with numbers, I am sure that Hexologic will be your time-killer for a long time. Well, maybe not that long.

From another point of view, Hexologic is the game which will make you love Sudoku if you’ve never tried it before. With its calming soundtrack, charming atmosphere and easy starting levels, Hexologic will surely warm your hearts.

When it comes to the gameplay mechanics of the game, I can say that it is highy easy. You will click with your mouse into the hexes while entering numbers. If you want to enter 3, then with 3 clicks you will enter 3 dots into the hexes . The line will be green if you’ve entered the correct numbers. There are three possible directions which the line may end, so in each end, the total number must fit.

The other thing I must mention about is that there is no undo option. You can enter maximum of three dots in a hex and by clicking again, you can make it empty again. But if you want to start over, you can not undo your moves. Undo is for the weak!

Overall, I’ve enjoyed every tiny puzzle of Hexologic and I recommend it to every Sukodu lover. Hexologic is a new point of view to the Sudoku game where you can also enjoy some nice soundtrack and warm colors.
