Soma devs are working on a horrific and special game

Soma was out in 2015 and it is now one of the best science fiction survival horror video games around. Soma tells the story of Simon Jarrett and his horrific underwater remote research facility journey while he is trying to uncover the past.

Maybe, just maybe, you haven’t hear of Soma. But with no doubt, you heard of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Yes, same dudes. Frictional Games is now working on an exciting project which they describe as ‘horrific in nature’ and we can not expect less since we still carry the scars of their previous games.

Frictional Games is now working on two new games and they say that this is now possible because of our supports as gamers.

Taken as a whole, the sales that we make from all our games will cover all our expenses every month, and even make us a profit. This is quite amazing. Given that we currently have about 16 people working with us full time, we have a pretty high burn rate, and to still be able to support all that on your ongoing sales is great.

The studio can now work on two titles at the same time and “focus on unique experiences”. They want to create games which will leave a mark on the player.

Because of this, and considering the sheer number of games that are currently being released, I think the best strategy is to focus on unique experiences. You want to create the type of experience that is not only hard to get elsewhere, but also leaves a mark on those who play it.This is now a core philosophy here at Frictional. I guess we sort of always had it unconsciously, but we have now made it official. Our goal is to create games that are more than forgettable escapism. We want people to come out of their experiences feeling chang

ed.

One of the upcoming titles from the studio is now in full production. There is no detailed news or no launch date for now, but they assure us that it will be “horrific in nature.” The second one is also at hand, but it needs some new technology in order to proceed. It will be less about direct, visceral horror, and more about the player gaining an understanding of different concepts. There is still a long time for it to launch, but it is good news that there are high quality games in production by the studio.

We will be back with more detailed news! Stay tuned!
