Xbox Cloud Gaming will impose monthly playtime limits on Game Pass subscribers beginning in November, replacing the unlimited cloud streaming currently available to eligible members.

According to Microsoft’s announcement, each Game Pass plan will include a different monthly allowance:

  • Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours
  • Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
  • Game Pass Essential: 5 hours

Subscribers who use all of their included time will be able to buy additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store. Microsoft has not announced the price of those hours, a specific November start date, or complete regional availability. The company says purchasing options and cloud features may vary by market.

Microsoft estimates that the limits will affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. It said the change is intended to manage the rising cost of operating cloud gaming as usage and session lengths increase, while acknowledging that frequent cloud players may pay more as a result.

November will also introduce cloud gaming without a Game Pass subscription. Players will be able to purchase playtime and stream eligible games they own on supported devices, although pricing, the eligible-game list, and other details remain unannounced.

The policy change comes as Microsoft continues to put the Xbox app on more screens. The company recently confirmed that select TCL smart TVs will receive the Xbox app in a phased rollout across more than 25 countries.

Microsoft says it will provide more information in November, including prices, purchase options, market availability, eligible games, and a way for players to check their remaining cloud time.
