State of Decay 3 Closed Beta Set for 2026 Ahead of 2027 Launch

State of Decay 3 will hold closed beta playtests before the end of 2026, giving more players an opportunity to try Undead Labs’ zombie survival sequel ahead of its planned 2027 launch. Registration is open now, although signing up does not guarantee selection.

The official Xbox Wire announcement says the beta will build on earlier alpha sessions and expand testing to more players and platforms as development progresses. Undead Labs is using the sessions to gather feedback before release.

State of Decay 3 is designed around a larger shared open world where players manage communities and survivors, develop settlements, gather supplies, and fight the undead. The studio says its building and management systems will be deeper than those in previous entries.

The game is scheduled for 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5. It will support Xbox Play Anywhere and launch through Game Pass. A specific release date has not been announced.

Players interested in testing can register through the official State of Decay 3 playtest site. The initial waves remain limited, with Undead Labs planning to increase participation over time. Pure Xbox also reported the confirmed 2027 window and beta plans.

State of Decay 3 was first announced in 2020. GNP covered its debut as part of the July 2020 Xbox Series X games showcase, making the upcoming beta a significant step after years of development.
