Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has opened its Campaign Early Access period with a “Very Positive” Steam rating, giving Activision’s latest release a notably strong start before the full game is available.
Steam’s public review data showed 2,558 positive reviews and 233 negative reviews from 2,791 total reviews when checked at 16:13 UTC on October 18, 2026. That works out to 91.65% positive. The number is a live snapshot and will change as more players post reviews.
The early average is especially striking against the series’ recent history on Valve’s platform. Insider Gaming’s comparison of Call of Duty releases on Steam found Modern Warfare 4 tracking as the franchise’s highest-rated entry there in roughly a decade. The publication initially recorded a smaller sample, so the newer figure above should be treated as the current reading rather than a fixed score.
There is also an important limit to that comparison: these reviews are arriving during Campaign Early Access. They primarily reflect the single-player experience and the opening days of access, not the settled reception to the complete package. Multiplayer, Zombies, and the wider launch-day audience can still move the score in either direction.
According to the official Steam listing, Campaign Early Access began on October 16, while early access for DMZ starts October 20 ahead of the full launch later in the week. Players planning their preload and unlock schedule can also check our Modern Warfare 4 launch guide.
Does the campaign’s early reception make you more interested in the full Modern Warfare 4 launch?
