Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 includes an “In memoriam” tribute to Vince Zampella, the late Infinity Ward co-founder who helped create the Call of Duty series.

The memorial appears on a separate screen in the game’s credits, according to Video Games Chronicle. The simple dedication reads “In memoriam — Vince Zampella,” recognizing his role in the studio and franchise’s history.

Zampella died in a car crash in December 2025. He co-founded Infinity Ward and was one of the key figures behind the original Call of Duty, remaining with the studio through 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

He later co-founded Respawn Entertainment, where his work included Titanfall, Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. In his later years at Electronic Arts, he also took on leadership responsibilities for the Battlefield franchise.

Modern Warfare 4’s tribute connects the newest Infinity Ward release to the developer whose work helped establish both the studio and Call of Duty’s modern identity. Geoff Keighley also drew attention to the memorial after the credits became available.

Which part of Vince Zampella’s work has had the greatest impact on you as a player?
