Electronic Arts has officially confirmed that DICE and Respawn Entertainment are collaborating on a future project, and Variety reports that the unannounced game is Star Wars: Battlefront 3.
The distinction is important: EA did not publicly identify the project as a new Battlefront game. Variety says multiple sources confirmed that DICE and Respawn are developing Star Wars: Battlefront 3 for Lucasfilm, making the game’s identity a report rather than an official announcement.
In its October 21 restructuring announcement, EA said the two studios are being brought together as part of a broader plan for its shooter portfolio. The company said the collaboration is intended to support that strategy, but offered no title, release date, platform list, development timetable, or breakdown of which studio is leading the work.
EA also said future Battlefield games remain part of its plans and that it will continue investing heavily in Apex Legends over the next several years, including new multiplayer modes and other experiences. Those projects are separate parts of the publisher’s shooter strategy.
Elsewhere in the announcement, EA reiterated that Respawn is working on the next Star Wars Jedi game. The company did not connect that action-adventure project to the reported Battlefront 3 collaboration.
Would you like to see DICE and Respawn combine their strengths for a new Star Wars: Battlefront game?
