Bungie Begins Work to Restore Vaulted Destiny 2 Campaigns, Destinations, and Raids

Bungie has begun work on returning vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids to the game, with the restored content planned to be available to all players. The studio has not announced which activities will return first or when the restoration will begin reaching players.

The commitment comes from Bungie’s September 17 studio update, in which Studio Head Poria Torkan and Marathon General Manager Josh Deane addressed the company’s direction and its efforts to rebuild trust with players.

What Bungie plans to restore

Bungie said the work will cover removed Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids. The announcement does not identify any specific campaign, location, or raid, so players should not treat individual pieces of vaulted content as confirmed until the studio names them.

The restoration will also take more than simply putting archived files back into the game. Bungie explained that changes made to Destiny 2 since the Beyond Light expansion require the team to update lighting, encounters, enemies, and underlying systems. The studio said that process is necessary for returning content to meet the current game’s stability and gameplay standards.

More details about the unvaulting effort are due in the coming months, but Bungie did not provide a release window. That makes this a confirmed development project rather than an imminent content drop.

Destiny remains part of Bungie’s future

The reversal follows Bungie’s earlier announcement that Monuments of Triumph would be the final content update for Destiny 2. According to the studio, the community’s response to that news demonstrated the continuing importance of Destiny and helped influence its new direction.

Bungie said it is “not done with Destiny” and described the restoration of removed content as a first step toward both preserving the series’ past and building future stories and games. The company also acknowledged that removing playable experiences damaged player trust and enjoyment, while stressing that its new promises will have to be supported by what it actually delivers.

The wider update included commitments to communicate more consistently, be clearer about development priorities, and report progress alongside future major updates for Destiny and Marathon.
