Cyberpunk 2077 was finally released on December 10th. It wasn’t in the best technical condition at launch, but even so, CD Projekt said pre-orders alone were enough to recover development and marketing costs.

This huge success of Cyberpunk 2077 is not surprising. CD Projekt notes that the Cyberpunk 2077 pre-orders are much higher than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with nearly eight million pre-orders making it the largest PC launch in history. It also set a new record for a single-player game by attracting over a million concurrent players on Steam.

CD Projekt did not publicly disclose the cost of building and marketing Cyberpunk 2077, but the earnings presentation for Q3 2020 showed approximately $ 111 million in non-GOG development expenditures in early 2018. The studio also said through its Twitter account that revenue from Steam exceeded $ 50 million more than two weeks before its release.
