PlayStation Introduces Customer Anti-Harassment Policy in Japan

Sony Interactive Entertainment has introduced a customer anti-harassment policy for PlayStation support in Japan. Published on September 1, 2026, the policy says the company may limit or stop support when customer conduct threatens employees’ dignity or safety, and may work with police or lawyers when it considers further action necessary.

In its official policy, SIE says it will continue responding sincerely to customers and using their feedback to improve its services. However, it draws a line at words, behavior, or demands that exceed what is considered reasonable.

The listed examples include persistent or lengthy demands; excessive or unreasonable requests for compensation or apologies; abusive language, threats, or defamation; requests unrelated to products or services; intimidation; discriminatory or sexual conduct; attacks or demands directed at individual employees; and unauthorized visits to company offices or related facilities.

SIE says confirmed harassment may result in customer support being restricted or discontinued. When the company considers it necessary, it may also consult police and lawyers and consider legal measures or criminal proceedings.

The document does not identify a specific incident as its trigger, and it does not mention PlayStation’s separate plan to stop producing new game discs from January 2028. A direct connection between the two would therefore go beyond what SIE has stated officially.
