Nintendo’s September 9, 2026 Nintendo Direct delivered a dense 45-minute look at the Nintendo Switch 2 winter lineup and beyond. The presentation introduced Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond, dated Final Fantasy VII Revelation, confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds for Nintendo Switch 2, and revealed new editions, expansions, updates, remakes and ports across more than 60 distinct games and content releases.

The show also brought firm dates for Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, three Resident Evil games and many more. Nintendo’s official announcement provides the complete confirmed slate, while the official Nintendo Direct page collects the presentation and its featured games. Game News Plus previously covered Nintendo’s plans for the broadcast.

Metroid Ravenous sends Samus into a new 2D fight

Nintendo opened its first-party reveals with Metroid Ravenous, an all-new 2D action adventure developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Its first footage framed Samus Aran as both hunter and potential prey, moving through hostile environments filled with aggressive creatures and large-scale threats.

Metroid Ravenous launches on January 28, 2027. Nintendo lists the standard game at $59.99, while a Special Edition will bundle the game with a steel case and an amiibo of Samus in her Metroid Suit. Separate Samus and Chozo Statue amiibo figures are also due at launch. Preorders opened after the Direct.

The trailer showed broad landscapes built for free exploration and opportunities to use familiar Copy Abilities in environmental and combat situations. It is planned for spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, the same year the Kirby series celebrates its 35th anniversary.

The Direct also outlined more Kirby content arriving sooner. Kirby Air Riders will receive an in-game event with rewards and changes to the main menu and Paddock, although Nintendo did not date that event. The amiibo lineup adds Sword Kirby & Dragoon and Noir Dedede & Hydra on November 12, 2026.

What the Direct established for Nintendo Switch 2

The September presentation gave Nintendo Switch 2 a clearer identity for the coming two seasons. Nintendo’s own slate covers new 2D and 3D adventures through Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond, while updated releases such as Pikmin 4, Hyrule Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 make deliberate use of the newer hardware rather than functioning as simple ports.

The third-party picture was just as important. Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Persona 6, the Resident Evil trio, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and a wide range of smaller projects give the system a far broader release calendar. Dates extending through spring 2027—and several undated 2027 projects beyond that—made this a lineup-focused Direct with plenty of concrete information rather than a show built only around distant teasers.
