Microsoft is exploring a major Xbox Game Pass overhaul that could let subscribers choose features à la carte, according to a new Fortune report. The proposed structure has not been announced by Microsoft and should be treated as an unconfirmed plan.

Fortune says the service could use a tiered model with optional components for console-only games, cloud gaming, and multiplayer. That description suggests subscribers may be able to assemble a plan around the parts of Game Pass they actually use, rather than selecting only from fixed bundles.

The report does not identify plan names, prices, a rollout date, or which games would be available through each component. It also does not say whether the structure would replace every current Game Pass tier or operate alongside existing subscriptions.

Why Microsoft may be reconsidering Game Pass

The reported proposal comes as Xbox reassesses how its subscription business fits alongside full-price game sales. Fortune says current and former employees believe Game Pass helped Microsoft build recurring subscription revenue but also reduced sales of some higher-priced first-party releases, particularly around launch.

A more flexible model could give Microsoft additional ways to package console access, multiplayer, and cloud gaming. Until Xbox formally announces a new structure, however, the exact options and their effect on current members remain unknown.

Would you prefer an Xbox Game Pass plan built from separate features, or do the current bundled tiers work better for you?
