GTA 6 Release Fears Are ‘Overblown,’ Circana Analyst Says

Jason and Lucia are pulled into a criminal conspiracy across Vice City and the state of Leonida after an easy score goes wrong.

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella says fears that GTA 6 will leave little room for other games are “completely overblown,” arguing that a major Rockstar launch will not erase demand for experiences such as Fortnite and Roblox.

Speaking in an original GamesBeat interview, Piscatella acknowledged that Grand Theft Auto VI is likely to be a huge cultural event. His point was that scale does not make the game universal: he said not every one of the 49 million people who own a PS5 or Xbox Series console in the United States will be interested in playing it.

Piscatella is Circana’s director of video games, where he analyzes US game sales, hardware, and player-market trends. His comments are an analyst’s assessment of how consumers and publishers may behave, not a confirmed forecast of GTA 6’s effect on any specific game or company.

He argued that players who are not interested in GTA 6 will still want other choices, from new cozy games, life simulations, and shooters to established platforms such as Fortnite and Roblox. Nintendo players also form a separate audience because GTA 6 is not announced for Nintendo hardware.

The concern, in Piscatella’s view, is that publishers have given Rockstar an unusually open release window by moving games away from GTA 6. He described some of that scheduling caution as more emotional than rational, while still recognizing the unprecedented attention surrounding the first new Grand Theft Auto launch in 13 years.

GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It leads our look at November 2026’s biggest releases, but Piscatella’s argument is that the rest of the market will not simply disappear when it arrives.

Do you expect GTA 6 to reshape what you play this November, or will your usual games keep their place?
