Sucker Punch Productions has reduced its staff as the Sony-owned studio reviews the team structure needed for its next project.

Aftermath’s original report, based on an internal email and information from a former employee, says 24 people were laid off. The publication corrected an earlier version of its report that had listed 26 affected employees.

In the email obtained by Aftermath, studio leadership said the decision followed a review of market challenges and the staffing needs of Sucker Punch’s next project. Management also said the studio had worked to support affected employees through the transition and planned to share more information about its future.

Sucker Punch is best known for Ghost of Tsushima and its follow-up, Ghost of Yōtei. The reductions come as the team moves beyond its latest release and determines the structure required for whatever it develops next.

Sony and Sucker Punch had not announced an exact number of affected employees through an official corporate statement in the material reviewed for this report. The figure of 24 therefore remains attributed to Aftermath’s corrected reporting rather than presented as a number independently confirmed by Sony.

No details about Sucker Punch’s next project were included in the report. The studio’s message indicated that more information about its future would follow, but it did not announce a game, platform, or release window.

How should major studios support employees when staffing needs change between projects?
