Gears of War is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a two-week event in Gears of War: E-Day, a free General RAAM multiplayer character, and a new season built around the series’ history.

According to The Coalition’s anniversary announcement on Xbox Wire, players who sign in can claim RAAM as a free multiplayer character. The celebration also adds limited-time Versus and Horde Siege activities alongside new rewards.

The Versus side brings back Guardian, while Horde Siege receives a “For the Queen” variant that disables the supply cache and makes squads rely on their chosen loadouts. The event is intended to mark two decades since the original Gears of War launched on Xbox 360.

The celebration will continue on December 1 with Season 2: Legacy. The Coalition says the season will revive fan-favorite maps, modes, and multiplayer skins, while also revisiting familiar characters through new designs. One example is Solemn Memories Dom, based on the suit Dominic Santiago wears in the photograph of him and Maria from Gears of War 2.

The anniversary arrives shortly after reported sales figures for Gears of War: E-Day put the game above 400,000 paid copies across Xbox and Steam, excluding Game Pass players.

Which returning map, mode, or character would you most like to see in Season 2: Legacy?
