Fable Main Story Will Take 15–20 Hours, Playground Games Says

Playground Games estimates that Fable’s main story will take between 15 and 20 hours to complete, with a similar amount of optional content available across side quests and open-world exploration.

PC Gamer reported the figures from a group Q&A attended by Polygon at gamescom 2026. Polygon credited associate game director Will Kennedy with saying the mainline quest contains roughly 15–20 hours of gameplay, while side content and exploration add another estimated 15–20 hours.

Those ranges should not be treated as a guaranteed 30–40-hour completion time. Players will move through the open world at different speeds, and Kennedy said the game’s broader life systems are “limitless,” allowing players to keep engaging with Albion beyond the defined quest content.

That claim lines up with Playground Games’ emphasis on Fable’s reactive world. Xbox’s official breakdown of the Living Population system says Albion contains more than 1,000 NPCs with their own personalities and routines. Players can build relationships, take jobs, buy property and develop a reputation that changes how individual villagers respond to them.

The new Fable is an open-world action RPG developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is scheduled to launch on February 23, 2027, with Premium Edition early access beginning February 18. Xbox has confirmed versions for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, alongside cloud support and a day-one Game Pass release.
