Discord is preparing to make eligible messages from public channels in Discoverable Servers accessible on the open web, where search engines including Google may show them. Dexerto reported that the rollout is due to begin in mid-December 2026.
The change does not apply to private servers, direct messages, group DMs, private channels, private threads, or private forums. Discord’s documentation says only eligible content from public channels in Discoverable Servers can appear. Public threads and forums may be included when their parent channel is eligible and participating.
Starting November 16, every Discoverable Server will have a public Server Web Page. Discord says these pages can appear in search results and may show channel summaries. Individual message visibility is scheduled to roll out gradually from mid-December.
Server owners and administrators can use Server Settings > Community > Web Presence to select participating public channels or disable Channel Messages entirely. The controls for messages and automated channel summaries are separate. Eligible public channels are included by default unless administrators change the settings.
Members also have an account-wide control under User Settings > Data & Privacy. The setting is enabled by default for adults in most regions, but disabled by default in the EU/EEA, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea. Teen accounts cannot enable it. Discord says usernames and avatars will not appear beside published messages.
Turning the member setting off prevents later messages from appearing, but it does not automatically remove messages sent while the setting was enabled. Users must delete those messages from Discord to remove them from Discord’s web pages, while search-engine caches may take longer to update.
Would you keep Discord’s web-message setting enabled or opt out?
