Discord Rolls Out Huge Batch of Community-Requested Features

Discord has rolled out a broad collection of community-requested features covering conversation organization, moderation, profiles, accessibility, and mobile navigation. In its September 16 announcement, the company said the effort began after it asked users what they wanted to see during Discord’s 11th birthday celebrations.

Those feedback posts generated millions of views and more than 3,000 responses. Discord then assembled a dedicated group of engineers to work through the suggestions, turning a mix of frequently requested tools and smaller quality-of-life ideas into updates that are now available.

Discord’s newly released community features

Conversation organization is one of the biggest themes. Pinned DMs are now available on desktop, and DMs previously pinned on mobile should carry over automatically. Personal channel pins have also expanded beyond Community Servers, allowing users to keep important channels at the top of the list in any server.

Discord has released several changes for moderators and server owners as well. Mod View now supports people who are no longer in a server, including former, kicked, and banned members, so past moderation cases retain more context. The Audit Log has been moved for easier access, while a new control lets server owners limit member pruning to administrators. Roles can also be duplicated instead of being rebuilt manually.

Other released improvements include:

  • Profile pictures can be opened in full view.
  • Desktop search keeps the Next Page control visible.
  • Profiles include a Friends Since field.
  • Alt text and spoiler tags can be added to images after they are sent.
  • Inactive Group DMs can be left in bulk.
  • Profile bios now support up to 300 characters.
  • GIF links can be copied directly from the GIF picker.
  • Forums on mobile have a Jump to Top button.

The profile and messaging changes focus on actions that previously required workarounds or were easy to miss. Opening a profile picture in full view makes the original image easier to inspect, while the Friends Since field puts a useful piece of relationship history directly on the profile. Bulk leaving gives users a faster way to clean up old group conversations.

The post-send image controls are also a practical accessibility and convenience improvement. A sender who forgot alt text or needs to hide an image as a spoiler can correct the message after it has been posted instead of deleting it and starting again. Keeping the desktop search control visible and adding mobile forum navigation similarly cuts down on unnecessary scrolling.

Individually, many of these additions are small. Together, they reduce repeated friction in common tasks, such as finding a conversation, reviewing an old moderation decision, correcting an image post, or navigating a long forum thread. The batch also combines general user improvements with tools aimed specifically at moderators and server owners.

Badge hiding and larger Group DMs are still in development

Two of the most requested ideas are not part of the released feature set. Discord says it is working on an experiment that would let users hide profile badges, but the company has not announced general availability.

Discord is also developing an increase to the current 10-person Group DM limit. It has not disclosed a new maximum or a firm release date, though some users may see an experiment as development continues. The company says smaller suggestions are likely to appear through its regular Patch Notes, while larger ideas will help shape its future product roadmap.

Which of Discord’s newly released improvements will make the biggest difference to how you use the platform?
