Arrowhead Game Studios is not currently developing Helldivers 3, according to chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt. About 95% of the studio remains focused on Helldivers 2, while a small group is prototyping Arrowhead’s next unannounced game.
Pilestedt discussed the studio’s plans in an interview reported by Video Games Chronicle. The prototype has not been identified as Helldivers 3, and Arrowhead has not announced a third game in the series.
Why Arrowhead is staying focused on Helldivers 2
Pilestedt argued that a conventional sequel would reset players’ progress and risk dividing an active community. In his view, Helldivers 2 can instead continue growing into a long-term hobby for players, with the community helping to sustain the game.
He said the “biggest competitor to a Helldivers 3 would be Helldivers 2.” A third game would make sense only if it were different enough for both titles to coexist, rather than asking the current audience to start over in a similar experience.
That position does not mean Helldivers 3 has been canceled. Arrowhead has not formally announced the game or said it entered production. For now, the studio’s public priority is continued support for Helldivers 2, including additions such as the recent Scope of Authority Premium Warbond.
Would you rather see Arrowhead keep expanding Helldivers 2 or eventually build a substantially different sequel?
