Fantastic Beasts 3: Will Mads Mikkelsen Be The New Grindelwald?

Johnny Depp may have been replaced soon after he was asked to quit from Fantastic Beasts 3. Mads Mikkelsen is allegedly in early talks to play Grindlewald in the upcoming sequel.

According to a report released by Deadline, Mikkelsen is director David Yates’ best choice to replace Johnny Depp, who recently dropped out of the project due to ongoing misconduct allegations.

Although Depp has only filmed one scene for the movie so far, he will keep his multi-million dollar salary due to the type of contract he originally signed that guaranteed his pay.

Mikkelsen is known for portraying Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal and Galen Erso in Rogue One. The Danish actor also played a pivotal role in the role of Clifford Unger in Hideo Kojima’s movie Death Stranding, contributing to both motion capture and vocals for the performance.

Filming of Fantastic Beasts 3 was suspended earlier this year due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and with Depp’s departure, WB confirmed that Fantastic Beasts 3 will air in the summer of 2022 instead of the November 2021 release date.
