We Happy Few was refused classification in Australia

We Happy Few is an upcoming psychological thriller survival game by Compulsion Games. The game is another dystopian title inspired by BioShock.

In this world, everyone is controlled by a personality-altering pill called a ‘joy pill’. We are a redactor and our job is deleting unhappy memories from records but one day, we decided not to take the pill and finally, we realize.

We Happy Few is coming out this year, but Australia seems to be going a little bit hard on the game. According to the classification website, the game is titled as refused because of the Games 1(a) clause.

The computer game is classified RC in accordance with the National Classification Code, Computer Games Table, 1. (a) as computer games that “depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.

There is no response from Compulsion Games or Gearbox Software. We Happy Few is also getting a movie adaptation. We Happy Few is in the works with “Pitch Perfect” producer Gold Circle Entertainment. Compulsion Games has partnered with dj2 Entertainment in this movie project.

Stay tuned.
