Dataminers found out that Battlefront II was supposed to have character customization

We have heard about Battlefront II a lot, especially about the controversial lootbox system which is delayed at the moment. Recently, we have heard another news from Battlefront II. Another ‘speculation’ (or something else) about the title has been uncovered by a dataminer and reddit user uninspired_zebra. The dataminer has uncovered that the game was supposed to have a customization option. This is interesting not only because it is weird that the files confirming this idea still exist, but also because the CEO of EA, Blake Jorgensen, had already announced that the character customization was against the canon and could have been easily exploited. But before we say anything, let’s take a look at the video posted by the dataminer:

This is interesting news. So, at first, developers had intentions to implement customization to the game. But then they decided to leave the idea behind. First of all, it is good to hear that they decided to keep the game loyal to the lore of Star Wars. Second, it can also be another reason of new speculations about Battlefront II (or I am simply being ridiculous). The loot-box system and the microtransactions have already been a big questions and problems for gamers. Even though this datamining doesn’t confirm anything at all, it can only mean that during the development process, the developers decided that the canon was much more important than a feature like this.

Blake Jorgensen had explained the reasoning behind this decision way before this discovery of uninspired_zebra. He had said: “The one thing we’re very focused on and they are extremely focused on is not violating the canon of Star Wars, […] Darth Vader in white probably doesn’t make sense, versus in black. Not to mention you probably don’t want Darth Vader in pink. No offense to pink, but I don’t think that’s right in the canon.” And for me, this is enough to explain the concerns they had initially. And that is a good reason.

Although for many people out there the idea of customization could have been a good idea, I completely agree with this decision. I would never want to see a pink Darth Vader swinging his rainbow colored lightsaber on Pikachu. Well, of course I exaggerate (a little bit?). But it is a system which is open to exploitation… and I do not trust any online community when it comes to exploiting something in an online game (sorry!).

I do however, want to know what you guys think about this decision. Do you think it was a good idea? Let us know about your thoughts.

And stay tuned for more!
