“Review bombers” will finally be shut up by Valve

I will not mention all of them, but late events showed us that the Steam user reviews can easily be misused by a handful of angry adolescents… Let’s not limit the definition by age, let’s say… a handful of angry bitches. Yes, that’s more I like it.

When you use a review system against the developer who had put a lot of time, effort and money into a game; you weaponize it, and that is bad. If you do that, if you ignore the reality and change it into the reality you want, you deserve a bitch-slap in the back of the neck. You absolutely do not have the right to protest something by affecting people’s lives directly, and badly.

Anyway, after the recent events with Firewatch and Dota 2, Valve’s Alden Kroll made an announcement via the Steam Blog, and gave us the good news: Steam reviews is updated to give us detailed histograms about the reviews of a game. These graphs also give us a warning if there is an influx of negative (or positive, maybe) reviews.

Kroll states,

In the end, we decided not to change the ways that players can review games, and instead focused on how potential purchasers can explore the review data. Starting today, each game page now contains a histogram of the positive to negative ratio of reviews over the entire lifetime of the game, and by clicking on any part of the histogram you’re able to read a sample of the reviews from that time period. As a potential purchaser, it’s easy to spot temporary distortions in the reviews, to investigate why that distortion occurred, and decide for yourself whether it’s something you care about. This approach has the advantage of never preventing anyone from submitting a review, but does require slightly more effort on the part of potential purchasers.

Well, that’s good news for all of us. Among all criticism, I think that Steam reviews is a good system to learn the community’s opinions about a game.

Steam users are now discussing the new system in a perfect harmony and exquisite manner. Here, let me show you an example:
