Half-Life Series Writer Says Half-Life 3 Would Have Ended Without Resolution

How dare you!

Half-Life 3. The upcoming Half-Life game. The game which we dream of. The game which does not exist and probably, won’t exist for a long time.

But, we like to keep our heads high and hope. We look for signs here and there, we hang on Gaben’s words. But, according to the interview series writer Marc Laidlaw made with Arcade Attack, he has no interest in going back to Half-Life universe. But more importantly, he says that Half-Life 3 would end like Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2, without resolution and as a cliffhanger.

According to Laidlaw, he had ideas of Episode 3 and they were all supposed to take the series to a point where he could step away from it and leave it to the next generation, yet it did not happen as he wanted. Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 stories left us hanging and Laidlaw was not able to tie the loose ends.

But I never thought as far ahead as HL3, unless you were to say that HL3 and Episode 3 were the same thing. I will say that I expected every installment would end without resolution, forever and ever…there was some rumor going around that Ep3 or HL3 would end Gordon Freeman’s story, and I don’t think that was accurate. My intention was that Ep3 would simply tie up the plot threads that were particular to HL2. But it would still end like HL1 and HL2, with Gordon in an indeterminate space, on hold, waiting for the next game to begin.

Which totally means that if there will be a Half-Life 3, we would be begging for Half-Life 4 and later for Half-Life 5. See, it is hell on earth. It is the ultimate torture.
