Good gracious, what an adventure this is!

  • “Climbed up a tower”: Yes, Sniper Elite 4 allows you to traverse vertically –first time in the series– and this makes the game bigger than ever. It is already big, by the way, for all the maps in game offer the player a huge playground along with great visuals.
  • “Cruelty of the auto save system”: Well, this is a negative one. Maybe one of the few negative features of Sniper Elite 4. The game constantly auto saves, which is good; but it also saves the game by the second you’ve blown your cover. If you were trying to play as a “ghost sniper”, you can exhaustedly restart the map, because the game saved your shameful mistake already. Nevertheless, if you are playing as a “ghost sniper”, you are probably familiar with quick saves. Quick save often, but remember that these auto saves can overwrite your quick saves without asking.
  • “Running frantically under a rocky underpass”: The map size is great, I already mentioned that, and they have a greater feature for us stealth-lovers: All the maps have alternate routes, choke points and passages, and the most important thing about them is nearly all of them seem natural. Using alternate routes is essential for stealth games, but generally they turn out to be makeshift flank passages, nothing more. They are there, calling you –more than calling; yelling “USE ME”. Sniper Elite 4‘s maps are not like that. They want you to explore and find new routes, but they ask nicely and subtly. Congrats to the level designers!

  • “The search was over”: Enemies in Sniper Elite 4 use triangulation to find you. If you fire a weapon without covering yourself with a more powerful sound like passing planes or kick-started-broken-generator-piston noises (yes, that’s a thing); enemies hear it and begin to triangulate the source of the gunshot. If you move quickly, you can escape; but jumping off a tower can be seen from hundreds of meters away (proven by experience). After blowing your cover, you can hide and wait for Nazis to lose their temper to continue –or shoot your way through like it is 1998.
  • “Our favorite goblin from Styx series”: Nope, wrong review.
  • “Bait-bodies and distractions”: O’ mighty Cthulhu, wasn’t that fun. De-functioning a Nazi, carrying his body to a more close location to his comrades, rigging it with a Teller Mine, whistling to draw his friends’ attention, then running away to wait for a glorious bomb X-Ray in which you can see his friends’ skin go off like a silk curtain in a warm wind. Yes, bomb X-Rays are a thing in Sniper Elite 4. Coming to distractions, you can shoot cargoes or other heavy objects to make them fall on soldiers, thus causing panic & chaos at that place.
  • “Gorgeous X-Ray testicle-shots”: As a male, I don’t want to talk about these. All I can say is, a new pair of organs are added to the long list of the organs you can shoot. See for yourself.

GNP Verdict

Sniper Elite 4 Review

8.2 /10

If you are a fan of Sniper Elite franchise, you've already played and finished it. If you are not -like me- you should give it a try, for it offers a unique open-world sniping/stealth fun.

Pros

  • Non-linear gameplay
  • Graphics & sounds
  • Refreshing Mediterranean setting
  • Most polished game of the franchise

Cons

  • AI sometimes gets confused
  • DLC policies
  • Terrible checkpoints
  • Can become repetitive for some players
