Microsoft may be preparing to replace its familiar annual Xbox Year in Review with a more ambitious retrospective called Xbox Playback. The reported feature appears designed to cover a player’s complete history with the platform rather than only the previous 12 months.

The details come from Insider Gaming’s report, which credits Better xCloud creator @redphx with the original discovery. Microsoft has not officially announced or launched Xbox Playback, so its contents and availability should be treated as reported information.

A broader archive than Year in Review

Year in Review has traditionally summarized a single year of activity. Xbox Playback reportedly stretches that idea across the user’s full Xbox history and organizes it into three sections: Your Origin, Your Journey, and Your Legacy. That format would make the experience closer to a personal gaming archive than an annual recap.

The distinction matters because the reported experience is built around milestones and lifetime patterns, not simply a ranked list of the most-played games from one calendar year. In that sense, Playback would preserve the familiar personalized-statistics format while placing each result in a much longer timeline.

Your Origin

This section reportedly looks back at the player’s earliest Xbox milestones: when the account joined Xbox, the first friend added, the first Xbox console used, the first achievement unlocked, the first game played, and the first game completed with every achievement.

Your Journey

Your Journey appears to focus on long-term activity. It includes total playtime and games played, a top genre and wider genre breakdown, and the years in which the player recorded the most playtime, earned the most Gamerscore, or played the greatest number of games.

The report also shows a platform breakdown separating playtime across console, cloud, PC, and mobile. Any figures visible in the sample screenshots belong to that example account and should not be read as statistics for Xbox players generally.

Your Legacy

The final section reportedly highlights a player’s rarest achievement, the number of games completed with 100% of their achievements, and the longest play streak. It also compares the account with the wider community through percentile rankings for achievements, Gamerscore, and playtime.

Part of Xbox’s 25th anniversary?

The timing suggests the new presentation could be connected to Xbox’s 25th anniversary, but the report does not amount to an official Microsoft announcement. Until the company confirms the feature, its final name, rollout, and exact data coverage remain unverified.

Would you prefer this reported all-time Xbox Playback archive to a traditional one-year recap?
