Microsoft has begun rolling out a redesigned Xbox PC app to Xbox Insiders, promising substantially faster navigation alongside a cleaner interface and broader search tools. The update starts reaching Insiders on November 5, 2026, while refreshed Xbox experiences for the web, cloud gaming, supported TVs, and VR headsets are following separate rollout schedules.
Microsoft claims major Xbox PC app speed gains
In its official Xbox Wire announcement, Microsoft says the updated PC app can launch up to 60% faster. The company also reports loading improvements of up to 50% for the Home, Store, and Game Pass pages, while in-app windows may open up to 65% faster.
Those figures come from Microsoft’s own testing, not independent benchmarks. Microsoft notes that results can vary depending on the device, internet connection, system configuration, usage, and other factors. The percentages describe how quickly the Xbox application and its interface respond; they do not indicate higher frame rates or improved performance inside PC games.
A cleaner library, social hub, and search experience
The redesign is intended to reduce the time players spend moving between major parts of the app. Microsoft has simplified navigation and updated the Library with new filters and organization options, making it easier to sort a collection and find something to play.
Friends and social features now sit in the main navigation rather than feeling separated from the rest of the app. From there, players can see what friends are playing, open chats, and join parties with fewer detours.
Search is also expanding beyond the store catalog. A single search can surface games, installed titles, add-ons, and people. Updated game cards, a refreshed Home screen and Settings area, and revised animations complete the visual overhaul. Taken together, the changes focus on making everyday actions easier to find rather than adding a new gaming-performance mode.
Xbox Cloud Gaming gets a broader web redesign
The refreshed web experience, previously previewed by Xbox Insiders, will begin reaching more players automatically over the coming weeks. This wider web rollout is separate from the PC app update that begins with Insiders, and Microsoft has not announced a date for when the redesigned PC app will become available to everyone.
On the web, a new cloud Library tab groups games that are eligible for streaming, including supported titles players own and games available through Xbox Game Pass. Improved sorting and filtering can organize that selection by recently played games, genre, input options, and other criteria.
A desktop mode uses more screen space on PCs and larger displays so more content remains visible while browsing. Players can choose between dark and light themes, along with five high-contrast options intended to support different visual needs and preferences.
The refreshed interface is moving to more screens
Microsoft is also starting a gradual rollout of the updated Xbox Cloud Gaming look and navigation to supported TVs and VR headsets. The company acknowledges that PC, television, and VR interfaces require different layouts, but it wants core actions—finding games, understanding what is playable, and launching a title—to feel more consistent across devices.
No universal release date has been provided for the PC redesign or the TV and VR updates. For now, the clearest availability milestone is the November 5 Insider rollout, with the refreshed web interface expanding more broadly during the weeks that follow.
