Sony says preparations for its next-generation PlayStation platform are progressing on schedule, with further investment planned during the next fiscal year.
The update came during Sony Group’s FY2026 second-quarter earnings briefing on November 5, 2026. CFO Lin Tao provided the status report, and VGC reported that development itself is “progressing as scheduled.” Tao also said Sony intends to continue preparing for and investing in the new platform from the next fiscal year onward.
Sony referred to the hardware only as its “next-generation platform.” The company has not formally unveiled the console, confirmed PlayStation 6 as its commercial name, or announced a release date.
PS6 remains the common industry shorthand, but Sony’s latest comments are limited to the development schedule and planned investment. The company did not provide specifications, pricing, or a launch window.
