PS6 Memory and Storage Could Cost More Than $680, Leaker Claims

The memory and NAND storage allocated to Sony’s next PlayStation console could cost more than $680 on their own, according to an unverified claim from hardware leaker KeplerL2. The figure is not an announced bill of materials, manufacturing cost, or PS6 retail price.

KeplerL2 made the claim in a NeoGAF discussion about possible next-generation hardware costs, writing that RAM and NAND alone were above $680. No itemized capacities, supplier contracts, or independently verifiable pricing data accompanied the post.

That distinction matters because component-market estimates are not the same as the amount consumers will pay. Platform holders negotiate supply contracts, hardware designs can change, costs move over time, and consoles can be sold with different margins. A claim about two components therefore cannot establish a final console price.

Sony has not publicly announced final PS6 specifications, memory or storage capacity, production cost, release timing, or retail price. Reports that extrapolate this claim into a $1,000 console go beyond what the original post establishes. For now, the $680 figure should be treated strictly as a leaker’s estimate rather than confirmed PlayStation information.

AMD has been linked to Sony’s future console plans in earlier reporting; our previous coverage examined how AMD reportedly secured that chip contract. That background does not verify the new memory-cost claim.

Would component costs change how long you are willing to wait for the next PlayStation?
