A November 6 Steam update for NieR: Automata is incorrectly telling some players that they need 366.56GB of free storage to install the game with its downloadable content. The installed game has not actually expanded to that size and still occupies roughly 40–50GB.
The patch added Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean language support, but Steam appears to be miscalculating the space needed when the base game and all eight DLC entries are selected together. Each DLC item is seemingly being counted at approximately the size of the base game, producing the inflated total.
Square Enix has acknowledged the installation-space problem and says it is investigating the cause while working on a fix. AUTOMATON WEST reported the issue and the temporary solution after the update went live.
Temporary workaround for the 366GB warning
- Open NieR: Automata in Steam and select Properties.
- Open the DLC section and uncheck the downloadable content.
- Install the base game.
- Re-enable the DLC after the base installation finishes.
The November 6 patch is the first Steam update for NieR: Automata since July 15, 2021. Until an official fix arrives, installing the base game before re-enabling the DLC avoids Steam’s erroneous combined-space calculation.
Did Steam’s 366.56GB warning stop you from installing NieR: Automata?
