Lollipop Chainsaw is getting its first live-action feature film. The project is being developed as an R-rated action comedy set before the events of the 2012 game, with Dragami Games licensing the adaptation to an international production team.
Deadline first reported the movie exclusively as it was unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2026. Dragami Games also confirmed the live-action adaptation through its official account on September 19.
The prequel will follow Juliet Starling, a San Romero High School cheerleader raised in a family of zombie hunters. A catastrophic outbreak overruns her school, forcing Juliet to fight through the undead while trying to save her friends, protect her family and keep her boyfriend Nick close.
The announced production group includes Nada Holdings head Joe Teng, former ZDF Studios drama chief Robert Franke and his Orange Chariot company, Throne Inc. managing director Takafumi Yuki, Ambitious Entertainment’s Kirk Shaw and Non Stop TV’s Patricio Rabuffetti. The initial announcement did not name a cast, writer or director, and no release date has been set.
Lollipop Chainsaw is expanding beyond games
Dragami Games president Shohei Sato described the film as another step in the company’s plans for the franchise. Franke said the production aims to retain the game’s attitude and excess while telling a standalone story that can also work for audiences unfamiliar with the source material.
The original Lollipop Chainsaw launched in 2012 and follows Juliet’s battle against a zombie outbreak at San Romero High School. Deadline reports that the game has sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide. Dragami revived it with Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP in 2024 and is also expanding the property with an animated series and Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back.
