GTA veterans Shawn Fonteno, Ned Luke, Steven Ogg and Young Maylay have offered advice to the performers behind Grand Theft Auto VI protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, focusing on the long relationship that can form between the actors, their characters and the series’ fans.
The group discussed the new leads during an interview with All Out Gaming at MCM Comic Con, as reported by GamesRadar+. Fonteno, who played Franklin Clinton in Grand Theft Auto V, advised the performers to listen to Rockstar Games and prepare for a long journey.
Luke, known for playing Michael De Santa, emphasized enjoying the experience and genuinely appreciating the fans who will connect with the characters. Ogg, the performer behind Trevor Philips, joined the conversation alongside his former castmates.
Young Maylay offered the longest-term perspective. More than two decades after playing Carl “CJ” Johnson in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, he still meets people who grew up with the character. His message was that the new performers will age alongside a fanbase that may continue associating them with Jason and Lucia for years.
The broader point was consistent across the generations: becoming a GTA protagonist can extend far beyond the recording sessions or the game’s launch. The roles can become a lasting part of an actor’s public identity, while new players continue discovering the characters long after release.
Rockstar has not officially identified the actors playing Jason and Lucia, so speculation about their identities remains unconfirmed. The studio has, however, formally introduced both characters and their roles in Grand Theft Auto VI’s Leonida story.
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version.
Which veteran’s advice do you think will matter most to the performers behind Jason and Lucia?
