Grand Theft Auto VI multiplayer could arrive in 2027, according to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, but Rockstar Games has not announced an online mode or a release window. Clancy made the remark while discussing the game’s expected effect on livestreaming audiences.
In an interview reported by Bloomberg on September 17, Clancy said Twitch has spent significant time talking with Rockstar about its plans and ways to involve creators. He expects Grand Theft Auto VI to produce a major audience increase when it launches, followed by an even larger surge next year “when they launch multiplayer.”
Clancy’s comment points to 2027, not an official date
Because the interview took place in 2026, “next year” points to a 2027 multiplayer launch. Clancy’s reference carries more weight than ordinary speculation because he described direct discussions between Twitch and Rockstar. Those conversations make sense for a series with a large streaming audience, especially around Grand Theft Auto roleplay.
Still, the distinction matters. Clancy leads Twitch, not Rockstar Games, and his comment was not a formal product announcement. Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed the multiplayer mode’s name, launch timing, platforms, pricing, or relationship to the existing GTA Online. Calling it “GTA Online 2” would therefore go beyond the information currently available.
What Rockstar has confirmed about GTA 6
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page lists the game for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two’s June preorder announcement describes the launch version as a single-player experience, without outlining a new multiplayer component.
That wording supports the possibility that online play will follow the campaign rather than arrive on launch day, but it does not confirm Clancy’s 2027 timing. Rockstar has also continued to keep the current GTA Online separate in its public messaging.
For the confirmed release date, platforms, editions, and other announced details, see our complete GTA 6 guide. Until Rockstar provides its own announcement, Clancy’s comment is best treated as an informed indication of the company’s plans rather than a locked release schedule.
Would you prefer GTA 6 multiplayer to arrive at launch or after players have had time with the story?
