Elden Ring Movie Could Run Nearly 3 Hours With $200 Million Budget

A24’s live-action Elden Ring movie could become a nearly three-hour fantasy epic, with a reported production budget approaching $200 million. The scale comes from a Deadline report published October 27, not an official runtime or budget announcement from A24.

A reported blockbuster-scale production

Deadline reports that Alex Garland’s screenplay runs to at least 180 pages, including visual material. A page count of that size could point toward a movie approaching three hours, but the finished runtime has not been confirmed and cannot be inferred precisely from the script alone.

The same report estimates the production budget at between $175 million and $200 million, closer to the upper end of that range. That figure is also reported rather than an official A24 disclosure.

Filming reportedly wrapped in July 2026, and the project is now in post-production. Garland is writing and directing the adaptation, extending his collaboration with A24 after previous films including Ex Machina and Civil War.

A faithful journey through the Lands Between

Deadline describes the adaptation as faithful to FromSoftware’s game, with Kit Connor reportedly playing the protagonist. The character’s journey is said to include large-scale battles against monsters and dragons, but no official character name or detailed plot outline has been announced.

The announced ensemble also includes Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz.

March 2028 theatrical and IMAX release

One major detail is official: Bandai Namco announced that the Elden Ring adaptation will open in theaters and IMAX on March 3, 2028. The publisher also confirms Garland as writer-director and lists the cast.

A background overview from Pop Culture News collects earlier developments, but the screenplay length, budget range, and production description originate with Deadline’s reporting.

Would a nearly three-hour runtime suit an Elden Ring adaptation?
