Dave Bautista says he has gained 20 pounds while preparing to play Kratos in Prime Video’s live-action God of War series. The actor shared the update in a recent Instagram Story as production prepares to move forward with its new lead.
In the short training clip, Bautista wrote, ‘Gained 20 lbs for GOW,’ while a ‘250’ marker indicated that his current weight is around 250 pounds.
Bautista was officially cast as Kratos in August 2026. He replaced Ryan Hurst after Hurst suffered a serious biceps injury during production that required surgery and created a lengthy recovery timeline.
Prime Video has ordered two seasons of God of War, with plans to shoot them back-to-back. The production is also expected to replace material previously filmed with Hurst, making Bautista’s physical preparation part of a broader restart around the recast role.
