Ben Wang is in talks to play Bobby Drake, better known as Iceman, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men film. The negotiations were first reported by Deadline in an exclusive report, but Marvel has not confirmed a deal or formally announced Wang’s casting.
Wang is therefore not yet locked in for the role. The distinction matters at this stage of the production process, when talks can continue without producing a final agreement.
Iceman was part of the X-Men’s original comic-book lineup when the team debuted in 1963. The character can lower temperatures and manipulate ice, abilities that have made him one of the franchise’s most recognizable mutants.
Shawn Ashmore previously played Bobby Drake across several 20th Century Fox X-Men films. Marvel Studios’ new project will introduce its own version of the team within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though the studio has not detailed Iceman’s role in the story.
