Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories will include an optional body-shape system after Koei Tecmo and Gust received more than 38,000 responses to a player survey. The feature can be switched on or off, and players who use it will be able to lock in a preferred appearance.
According to the official survey-results announcement, turning the system on will allow Karia’s body shape to change according to how much she eats during snack sequences. Players can then lock the shape they prefer, preventing the system from continually changing her appearance.
The on/off setting is an important part of the design. Players who do not want the mechanic can disable it rather than having body-shape changes imposed on their playthrough. Gust has not yet explained every menu option or when the lock becomes available in the game.
The survey will influence more than that single system. The developers also plan to produce selected costumes and a special short story based on survey choices. In addition, answers to the three most popular developer questions are scheduled to be shared through the game’s official social channels. Specific release timing for those extras has not been announced.
Body-shape changes connect directly to Atelier Karia’s wider design, in which protagonist Karia gains abilities and knowledge by eating items. The official game site describes a loop built around synthesizing items, using them during exploration, and eating them, with Karia’s appearance and abilities changing according to what she consumes.
Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories is scheduled for February 25, 2027, on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
Will you keep Atelier Karia’s body-shape system active, or would you rather lock in one appearance?
