Embark Studios is considering how a permanent PvE option could fit into ARC Raiders after a limited test drew substantial player interest, but the developer has not announced a permanent mode.

In an interview with The Game Business, Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund said adding PvE would not be technically difficult. The studio’s larger concern has been preserving the tension created by ARC Raiders‘ PvPvE structure, where computer-controlled machines and rival players create overlapping threats.

Embark recently tested an option that prevented players from damaging one another. Executive producer Aleksander Grøndal said almost 50% of the rounds played during the test took place on the PvE server, showing strong curiosity about the alternative format.

The feedback was not uniform. Grøndal said some players who had requested PvE changed their minds after trying it because they felt the mode lost part of the game’s character, while others strongly preferred the lower-conflict experience. Embark is now studying the data and considering how to serve different player groups without weakening the overall design.

Söderlund’s comments make a permanent PvE mode sound possible, not confirmed. The studio has not provided a release window, final rules, or a commitment to add the option.

The discussion follows ARC Raiders‘ Frozen Trail update, which expanded the live game with new content after Embark slowed its earlier monthly update cadence.

Would a permanent PvE option make you more likely to play ARC Raiders, or is PvP tension essential to the experience?
