When is the Dawn of War 4 release date?

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV launches on December 3, 2026. The date comes from PLAION’s official August release update, which replaced older storefront information.

Commander Edition buyers receive a three-day early unlock beginning November 30. An exact Steam unlock hour and preload schedule have not been announced, so the date does not guarantee that every time zone will gain access at local midnight.

What platforms is Dawn of War IV coming to?

Dawn of War IV is a Windows PC game distributed through Steam. No PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, or other console version has been announced.

KING Art is licensed to develop for major console platforms, but that company capability is not a console announcement for this game. The official Dawn of War IV FAQ and current store page list PC only.

How much does Dawn of War IV cost?

Steam currently lists the Standard Edition at $59.99 and the Commander Edition at $89.99 in the United States. A temporary 10% preorder discount lowers them to $53.99 and $80.99 respectively. The promotion is scheduled to end on December 3.

EditionUS list priceCurrent preorder priceWhat it includes
Standard Edition$59.99$53.99Base game
Commander Edition$89.99$80.99Base game, Year One expansion content, Blood Ravens story prologue, digital soundtrack, and three-day early unlock

The current discount should not be confused with the regular price. Steam promotions can end or change, while the list price is the better reference for the edition’s normal cost.

What does the Commander Edition include?

The Commander Edition combines the base game with the Year One expansion package and the three-day early unlock. Official edition material also lists the Blood Ravens story prologue, the Aftermath campaign expansion with a new faction, and a digital soundtrack.

Players interested only in the launch game can choose Standard. Players who want the paid Year One story content and early access can choose Commander. Free updates on the Year One roadmap are planned for the game more broadly and should not be treated as a paid Commander-only feature.

What are the four Dawn of War IV factions?

All four factions have their own campaign and different battlefield mechanics:

  • Space Marines: elite, expensive fighters who are strong in direct engagements. They can reinforce in the field and use reserves and the Thunderhawk Relay to move troops where they are needed.
  • Orks: aggressive armies built around numbers, pressure, multiple strongholds, and Waaagh! Banners. Their free Stratagem use rewards constant action, although individual ranged units and structures can be vulnerable.
  • Necrons: resilient mechanical forces that recover losses through Resurrection Galleries. Their Power Matrix provides battlefield bonuses, while translocation helps offset slow movement.
  • Adeptus Mechanicus: technology-focused forces whose Noosphere Network unlocks research and upgrades. Their superior firing line is powerful when protected from close-range attackers.

The official Dawn of War IV website provides these faction identities and strategic strengths. The Space Marine campaign also includes missions led by the Blood Ravens and Dark Angels, with the latter presented as a playable sub-faction within that campaign.

How many campaigns and missions are included?

Dawn of War IV contains four complete campaigns with more than 70 missions in total. Each playable faction receives its own campaign, and the stories feed into one overarching narrative. Branching choices can alter the path through those campaigns.

Campaign play supports solo and cooperative options. PLAION has not published an exact mission count for each faction or a universal campaign-length estimate, so the confirmed figure is the combined total of more than 70 missions.

What multiplayer and co-op modes are confirmed?

The official game overview confirms several ways to play:

  • Co-op campaigns: campaign missions can be played cooperatively as well as solo.
  • Competitive multiplayer: three multiplayer game types across 30 maps.
  • Skirmish: four game types with customizable settings and support for up to five AI opponents.
  • Last Stand: a cooperative survival mode in which one player teams up with two allies and holds out against enemy waves.

Last Stand offers five heroes and companion-unit Strikeforces. The exact matchmaking, ranked structure, and cross-region networking details have not been fully explained.

How does army customization work?

An enhanced Painter tool lets players choose presets or build custom color schemes with colors, decals, and wargear. Official material says individual armor and equipment pieces can be painted, giving players more granular control over how an army looks.

The game also uses base building, resource-point control, cover, garrisoned buildings, weapon and ability upgrades, and unit veterancy. A Combat Director system manages dynamic sync kills during clashes, while veteran units grow stronger when they survive battles.

What is included in the Year One roadmap?

The Year One plan includes free updates with the return of Crusade Mode, new maps, new modes, new Commanders, and a Mission Editor. PLAION also plans two major story expansions, which will deepen the conflict on Kronus and introduce another playable faction through the expansion roadmap.

Release dates for that post-launch content have not been announced. The roadmap combines free updates with expansion content, so it should not be read as a promise that every individual DLC item is automatically part of the Standard Edition.

What are the Dawn of War IV PC requirements?

Steam currently says a 64-bit processor and operating system are required, but the full minimum and recommended specifications are still listed as coming soon. There is no official final CPU, GPU, memory, or storage recommendation.

Players should wait for a complete specification table before deciding whether a system meets the requirements. Final download size, SSD guidance, resolution targets, and expected frame rates also remain unconfirmed.

What remains unconfirmed?

  • Exact launch and early-access unlock hours
  • Preload date and final download size
  • Complete minimum and recommended PC specifications
  • Detailed performance targets and graphics presets
  • Dates for Year One updates and expansions
  • Complete matchmaking and ranked-mode details
