Xbox will publish PHYSINT, the action-espionage game now in development at Kojima Productions. The companies announced the expanded partnership on September 9, 2026, saying it now covers PHYSINT in addition to OD and will also extend into film and television. Neither a release window nor target platforms were announced.

Xbox and Kojima Productions broaden their partnership

Xbox said Kojima Productions selected the company to work with the studio on PHYSINT. Hideo Kojima described the agreement as an expansion of the relationship established around OD and said his team remains focused on “redefining the action-espionage genre” as development moves forward.

The announcement is especially notable because Kojima Productions originally unveiled the project during PlayStation’s State of Play on January 31, 2024. At that time, the studio described the game as a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and said it was being made with SIE’s full support.

Xbox’s new statement does not explain whether Sony’s role has changed, how responsibilities may be divided, or which systems will receive the game. Until either company provides more detail, the publishing announcement should not be read as confirmation that PHYSINT is an Xbox exclusive.

What is known about PHYSINT

PHYSINT is a new original intellectual property rather than a continuation of one of Kojima’s earlier series. When the project was announced in 2024, Kojima said full production would begin after Death Stranding 2. The studio has presented it as an attempt to bridge games and film through advanced technology, a major cast, and highly realistic visuals.

A September 2025 studio anniversary update revealed concept art and identified Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok, and Minami Hamabe as cast members. Kojima Productions still has not shown gameplay or announced a launch date.

The expanded deal builds on Kojima Productions’ work with Xbox on OD, which the studio has presented with Xbox Game Studios. It also follows the 2024 release of Death Stranding Director’s Cut on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Beyond games, Xbox and Kojima Productions said they plan to collaborate on film and television projects intended to bring new stories to a wider audience. The companies did not name any specific productions, formats, or release plans.
