A recent update has sparked speculation that a sequel to Back 4 Blood, developed by Turtle Rock Studios, is in the works. The discovery comes from actor Jesse Hutch’s resume, which lists “Gobi 2” as part of his motion capture roles. “Gobi” was the codename for the original Back 4 Blood, so it’s possible that “Gobi 2” refers to a sequel currently under development.
Further evidence suggests the game may be nearing an announcement. In May 2023, Turtle Rock Studios registered the domain name back4blood2.com, which could signify that they are preparing for an official reveal. This follows Turtle Rock’s statement in February 2023, in which they announced that development on post-launch content for Back 4 Blood would cease. The studio explained that, due to its small team size, it was shifting focus to a new project, teasing that its next big game was in the works.
Back 4 Blood was released in October 2021 and launched across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. While the game received mixed reviews, it proved successful commercially, with over 10 million players by February 2022, making it one of the fastest-selling original IPs in 2021. Turtle Rock Studios is known for its work on the Left 4 Dead series and Counter-Strike, and if Back 4 Blood 2 is indeed in development, it would mark the next chapter for the studio after their move away from post-launch support for the original game.
