Sega‘s The House of the Dead is being adapted into a film, with Paul W.S. Anderson set to write and direct. He will also produce the movie alongside Jeremy Bolt, both known for past adaptations like Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil. Additional producers include Sega’s Toru Nakahara and members from Story Kitchen.

Anderson expressed his long-standing love for the game, noting his nostalgia for arcade gaming in the ’90s. The film will draw from House of the Dead 3, focusing on a character named Lisa Rogan who seeks to rescue her father, intertwined with the story of Daniel Curien, whose family is linked to a mutant outbreak.

Anderson emphasized that the film will capture the intense, immersive nature of the game, distinguishing it from previous adaptations like Resident Evil. Sega is cautiously managing the adaptation process, having shifted its approach after the success of the Sonic films. Production is scheduled to begin by mid-to-late 2025, with Sega teasing the news through a social media post featuring a house and a tombstone emoji.
