Creative director Josef Fares recently teased Hazelight Studios‘ upcoming co-op game through a post on X, referring to it as a “brand new IP called S**** ******N.” This announcement was echoed by the official Hazelight account, which shared a redacted image of a script filled with notes and post-its, prominently featuring the word “co-op.” This hints that the studio will maintain its focus on multiplayer gameplay, continuing the trend established by its previous titles.
While the game’s official title has not been confirmed, renowned dataminer billbil-kun has purportedly leaked the name as Split Fiction. According to a post on the Dealabs blog, the game will incorporate a unique screen-splitting mechanic that is central to its gameplay. Hazelight’s teaser image showcases various sketches of dynamic split screens, indicating that this feature will be a key element of the experience.
Hazelight is known for its emphasis on cooperative adventures, with previous titles like A Way Out and It Takes Two exclusively offering two-player co-op gameplay. The studio recently announced that It Takes Two has sold over 20 million copies, highlighting its success in the co-op genre.
In a 2022 interview with VGC, Fares hinted at exciting developments for the studio’s next project, stating it would be “a surprise in a good way” and emphasizing that “it’ll be something really cool.” As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how Hazelight will innovate with Split Fiction.
