GSC Game World, renowned for its titles such as Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and Cossacks 3, has updated the highly anticipated Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, set to launch on November 20, 2024. The game will be available on multiple platforms, with specific performance metrics announced for the Xbox Series S and X.
In an interview with Windows Central, the developers confirmed that Stalker 2 will run at 30 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series S, which may disappoint some players. In contrast, the game achieves 60 fps on the Xbox Series X, although it may occasionally drop to 55 fps. While there have been instances of reaching 60 fps on the Series S, the developers indicated that a consistent performance has not been achievable. However, GSC Game World is actively exploring the possibility of a performance mode that could boost the Series S version to 60 fps.
Initially, GSC Game World faced challenges in optimizing Stalker 2 for the Series S due to its complex mechanics and extensive content. After leveraging Unreal Engine’s features for data streaming and meticulously optimizing the game, the developers expressed confidence that they could push the platform’s memory limits. They noted that their optimization efforts benefited the Xbox Series S version and enhanced the game’s performance on PC, resulting in lower minimum requirements compared to typical modern titles.
In addition to the main game, players can look forward to Stalker: Legends of the Zone, scheduled for release on Nintendo platforms in November. Completing Stalker 2 fully is estimated to take around 100 hours.
The standard edition of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will retail for $42.99, with the Deluxe edition priced at $57.99, and the Ultimate edition at $78.99, all available on Steam.
