The Resident Evil 2 Remake is set to launch on iPhone and Mac on December 31. It will be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, and all Apple silicon iPads and Macs. While players can try a small portion of the game for free, the complete experience will require a purchase.
This release follows other mobile adaptations of the franchise, including Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil Village, all of which reportedly underperformed in sales. The game will require approximately 25GB of storage, and while a controller is advised for gameplay, keyboard and mouse options are unavailable. Additionally, an internet connection is mandatory to start the game, a change that has led some players to request refunds due to concerns about digital rights management and data privacy.
Recent reports indicated that Resident Evil 7 had been purchased by fewer than 2,000 users shortly after its release, with a conversion rate from free trials to paid versions at just 2.4 percent. Other titles in the series have also seen disappointing sales on Apple’s platforms.
Despite these challenges, Capcom seems dedicated to continuing the series on mobile, raising questions about the potential for a Resident Evil 3 Remake in the future. Furthermore, Koshi Nakanishi, director of Resident Evil 7, confirmed that Capcom is working on a new installment, mentioning the difficulties in conceptualizing the next steps for the franchise but expressing optimism about the project’s direction.
