Reports Show That PlayStation is Preparing to Compete Against Xbox Game Pass

A new report says that Sony has got its hands on a service that is probably going to compete against Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass.

Bloomberg‘s report shows that sources that have relations with Sony have shared details on Sony’s new service which allows users to pay a monthly fee to play games from a specific library, which seems pretty similar to Xbox Game Pass.

Looking deeper into the service codenamed “Spartacus”, we find three tiers to which users can subscribe. The first tier introduces the generic PS Plus benefits such as online play and monthly free games. When you get to tier 2 you get to access a library of games. With tier 3, the variety of games in the library expands and you’ll get older generation games as well.

Especially the backwards compatibility here stands out, as it’s actually a pretty demanded technology nowadays. I mean, who doesn’t want to play old games sometimes?

The service’s expected launch is looking like Spring 2022. And it is said that it will merge two services that Sony has already launched. These services are PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, and to be honest, it’s a smart move as PlayStation Now didn’t quite meet the aimed numbers and PlayStation Plus has the same concept as “Spartacus”- kind of.

Although this is interesting, it will be even more interesting to see if Sony will be able to keep up with Xbox Game Pass as its collection is considered pretty huge and gets day-1 releases in it. We shall see how this goes.
